A new fighting game emerges as David Sirlin, President at Sirlin Games, announced Fantasy Strike earlier today.
Fantasy Strike, according to David, is attempting to remove a lot of the complexity that most fighting games have and include the idea of simple controls and execution while still being a competitive e-sport.

“My background in fighting games goes back more than 25 years. I played Street Fighter 1 in arcades as a kid. I play many version of Street Fighter and Guilt Gear competitively in many tournaments, including three Top 8 finishes at Evolution” stated David. He continued “I was also lead designer of Street Fighter HD Remix. I love fighting games, but they’re generally hard to play. I’ve been frustrated for a long time that so much of the fun of the genre has to offer is inaccessible to most people.”
David intends to change that with Fantasy Strike so people with no dexterity skills can experience the fun. He was able to slightly do this on Street Fighter HD Remix by simplifying the inputs a bit, but is now trying to achieve this from the ground up.
For example, the game has 1-button inputs for all moves and actually has a feature which is a 0-button input. The feature, called a “yomi counter”, is used a means to get out of throws and to perform it, you just let go of the d-pad and buttons. This does mean that you are completely open to other attacks, however if your opponent attempts to throw you, you will reverse it.
Fantasy Strike will have a booth set up at PlayStation Experience on December 3 and 4 so that you can check the game out.
