FBI, Scotland Yard arrest suspected LulzSec member

A joint operation by the FBI and Scotland Yard has resulted in the arrest of a suspected LulzSec member in Wickford, Essex.

Authorities apprehended the individual, a 19-year old male believed to be a key member of the notorious hacking group, at a residential address last night. The teenager is currently being detained at a London police station.

LulzSec have claimed responsibility for a number of high-profile cyber attacks as of late, including the infiltration of numerous websites and services within the games industry such as MineCraft, Eve Online, The Escapist and Bethesda.

The group recently posted on Twitter that it had successfully breached the website of the UK’s national law enforcement Soca, writing, "Tango down – soca.gov.uk – in the name of #AntiSec."

It later added: "DDoS is of course our least powerful and most abundant ammunition. Government hacking is taking place right now behind the scenes. #AntiSec."

"The arrest follows an investigation into network intrusions and distributed denial of service attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group,” a spokesperson for Scotland Yard said earlier today.

"Searches at a residential address in Wickford, Essex, following the arrest last night have led to the examination of a significant amount of material. These forensic examinations remain ongoing."
