Final Fantasy 15 PS4 Pro patch detailed, features 4K and 1080p options

Final Fantasy 15 game director Hajime Tabata has confirmed during the latest Active Time Report that the PlayStation 4 Pro version of the upcoming JRPG will offer two different resolution and frame rate combinations.

The PS4 Pro update will arrive in December, with the first option offering a resolution of 1080p while locking the frame rate to 60fps. The second option caps the action at 4K resolution while keeping the frame rate ticking along steadily at 30fps.

Tabata-san said that at the moment the game is performing at 40-50fps in the current build, although the team is still working to meet its 60fps target.

Elsewhere, the stream confirmed that a new Final Fantasy 15 demo will be made available on the Japanese PlayStation and Xbox stores from November 11. This teaser, known as Judgement Disc, will allow gamers to play from the start of the game up until around the middle of the first chapter.

Final Fantasy 15 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 29, having been delayed from its original launch in late September.

The game takes place in the world of Eos, and focuses on the exploits of Noctis Lucis Caelum, heir to the throne of Lucian, who embarks on a quest to retake his homeland from the invading armies of Niflheim. Unlike previous entries in the venerated JRPG series, the game adopts a more action-based combat system that is more similar to Kingdom Hearts, but also includes a vast open-world to explore ripe with side quests.

Final Fantasy 15 was originally known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and was in development for the PS3 as far back as 2006. However, the project was later scrapped and moved to current-generation hardware when Versus XIII was around 25 percent complete

Square Enix confirmed last month that the game’s final piece of downloadable content will take the form of a co-op multiplayer mode.
