The long-rumoured Final Fantasy IX Remake could be ‘on ice,’ according to leaker NateTheHate, who claims that it’s unknown if Square Enix will return to the project.
“I’d assume the game is on ice & the unknown is whether [Square Enix] will return to it or not,” said Nate, when asked about an update on the game. Back in July this year, NateTheHate revealed that he had heard the Final Fantasy IX Remake was in trouble and even possibly cancelled, although up until then he was sure it was still in development.

Final Fantasy IX Remake has been rumoured for a few years, although Square Enix has never officially announced its existence. Earlier this year, NateTheHate claimed that the FFIX Remake was in development but not expected to arrive in 2025. Both Gematsu and journalist Jeff Grubb have also claimed that a Final Fantasy IX Remake is in the pipeline.
