Naoki Hamaguchi, the director on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has revealed during an interview with Omelette that one particular scene in the game packs quite the emotional punch, to the point where it made him cry despite having already completed Revelation 40 times already.
There’s this scene that’s quite essential to the story of Final Fantasy 7 where Cloud goes into a moment of introspection and discovers his identity, and how it fits with Zack and Aerith. I think the way we portrayed that in Revelation turned out very well, and we’re eager for fans to see it. I’ve finished Revelation about 40 times, and every time that introspective scene with Cloud made me cry.
Hamaguchi-san described it as a “key scene from the original related to Cloud’s identity.” He added that it’s “one of the most memorable experiences in FF7 Revelation.” The game director previously stated that he had completed 40 playthroughs of Final Fantasy VII Revelation during a chat with Nintendo Life back in May.
From the sound of things, Hamaguchi could be talking about the sequence where Cloud and Tifa end up in the life stream and Cloud, who is suffering from Mako poisoning at the time, delves into his subconscious to help recover his lost memories. It was a pivotal scene, and reintroduced Cloud into your party after he was absent for a while.
Speaking in a separate interview Everything.it, Hamaguchi revealed that players will be able to reach Level 99 in Final Fantasy VII Revelation (the original game’s level cap), and said that the optional WEAPONs that you can fight will include a “dedicated narrative component.”
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to ship in Spring 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
