Final Fantasy VII Revelation Players Can Hit Level 99, WEAPONS Have Their Own ‘Dedicated Narrative Component’

Speaking during an interview with Everything.it, Naoki Hamaguchi, director on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has revealed that the game will allow players to reach level 99 like the original 1997 RPG.

Another thing I wanted to add is that in Remake and Rebirth, there was a level cap, but in Revelation, we will not have a level limit: players will be able to reach level 99,” said Hamaguchi-san. Beyond that, he also revealed that players will be able to dabble in optional activities including the WEAPONS, which will have their own “dedicated narrative component.”

WEAPONs and enemies even tougher than the final boss you face in the story. Examples include the WEAPONs themselves or the beloved Knights of the Round,” he said. As such, players will be compelled “to complete all the remaining content on the world map after finishing the main story.”

For those unfamiliar with the original Final Fantasy VII, the WEAPONS are large creatures made by the planet to protect it in times of crisis. Most of them were optional boss battles, including the Ruby and Emerald weapons, which are easily the toughest enemies in the game possessing a huge amount of HP and deal massive damage to the party. They required players to hunt down some of the most powerful Materia and weapons in the game in order to stand a chance of defeating them, including the Knights of the Round summon.

Hamaguchi recently revealed that FFVII Revelation will boast an ‘even bigger open world‘ than FFVII Rebirth, and will allow you to revisit locations from that game.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S in Spring 2027.
