Final Fantasy VII Revelation Director Says Splitting The Remake Project Into 3 Parts Was Risky

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Game Director, Naoki Hamaguchi, has revealed during an interview with Final Weapon that splitting the remake project into three parts came with risks, and therefore wasn’t a business decision but rather a creative choice.

Hamaguchi-san made the comments after being asked if he feels we’ll see another remake attempted under similar circumstances. In response, he said that other popular titles “will be remade,” but noted “I’m not so sure there will be that many” in regards to splitting them across three titles.

That was all from a creative perspective, but from a business perspective, it’s a totally different story. For example, if the first title had sold really poorly and been poorly reviewed, I mean, what do you do with the rest of the titles? There’s also this need to keep the team as similar as possible across all of the titles, and that’s another huge headache, especially for people who control the strings. Those are big risks that you have to take, and I don’t think many will.

Earlier this week, Hamaguchi revealed that PS5 Pro will feature support for 4K/60 FPS when running FFVII Revelation, largely thanks to the implementation of PSSR. In addition, he also revealed that players can “easily” put in 100 hours into the upcoming RPG sequel if they decided to squeeze the game for everything it has on offer.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is due out on April 8, 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
