Naoki Hamaguchi, director on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has revealed during an interview with PCGamer that Zack Fair will feature more playable sections in the upcoming sequel, and what’s more, he’ll have his own combat system.
In Revelation, there are more playable sections with Zack, and they are more extensive than those in Rebirth. He’ll actually be playable in battle with his own combat system that’s unique to him, and there will be room for growth in a skill tree kind of way. It’s very closely tied into the story experience, so it’s on a much larger scale than what you’ve seen before, which I think will hopefully make Zack fans happy, and his sections, let’s just say they are full of surprises.
Zack was featured in the original 1997 version of Final Fantasy VII in various flashbacks, although despite the game’s age I’m not going to go into spoilers in case you haven’t played it. Suffice to say though, he’s a key character in Cloud’s past that was greatly expanded on in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and also received his own prequel in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PSP, which was later remastered for modern platforms a few years ago.
Hamaguchi-san recently confirmed that FFVII Revelation will offer 4K/60 FPS on the PS5, and that the game can easily take around 100 hours to complete. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
