Square Enix has confirmed that the hotly anticipated Final Fantasy XV will not be showing its face at the upcoming Tokaigi Japan Game Party 2015.
Despite the game’s no-show, the Japanese developer and published confirmed it will still have a strong presence at the event, and will be showcasing a brand new title—though quite what this is remains a closely guarded secret.
Final Fantasy XV started out life as the PlayStation 3-exclusive RPG, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, back in 2006. The game didn’t even start full production until a few years later, and made sporadic appearances at various trade shows during this time.
Rumors quickly gathered pace regarding the game’s cancellation, until Square Enix finally re-revealed the project at Sony’s E3 2013 press conference under a new title: Final Fantasy XV.
The game will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though it is unlikely we’ll see it out this year.
