Square Enix has announced that it is manufacturing additional Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Collector’s Editions in wake of eBay snapping up multiple units to sell for a huge profit.
The content-filled Ultimate Edition includes a wealth of physical goodies, including a Noctis statue, artbook and steelbook case, plus a host of digital extras to boot. It’s not cheap mind, costing £189.99.
Initially the set was limited to just 30,000 copies worldwide, though Square Enix has now said that it will be pumping out more copies to satisfy demand.
"Good news! We will be producing more #FFXV Ultimate Collector’s Editions which will be available worldwide!," the company Tweeted.
"Due to factors outside of our control though – there is a chance these new UCEs may not be ready by Sep 30 (the #FFXV release date). We’ll do our best to make sure the new UCEs are not delayed though & we’ll let you know how you can order one from the 2nd batch soon."
Final Fantasy XV is scheduled to ship for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30, 2016. The game features an open-world to explore and takes on a more action-oriented focus in comparison to previous entries in the venerable JRPG franchise.
Set on Eos, players follow the story of Noctis, an heir to the Lucian throne who inherits magical powers due to a near-death experience. However, when his homeland is invaded by enemy forces, Noctis is forced into the wilderness and ultimately begins the long quest of defeating his adversaries alongside a band of loyal companions.
Final Fantasy XV has endured an arduous development cycle. The project was originally announced nearly ten years ago at E3 2006, where it was known as the PS3-exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
However, after years of sporadic updates, Square Enix eventually re-revealed the project at E3 2013 as Final Fantasy XV, where it had more to PS4 and Xbox One platforms. It later said that the game was revamped when FF Versus XIII was around 25 percent complete back in mid-2012.
A playable demo of the game, titled Episode Duscae, was released with the high-definition version of Final Fantasy Type-0 on PS4 and Xbox One last year. Square Enix later updated the demo and launched an all-new teaser, the Platinum Demo, last month.
The game’s director recently estimated that Final Fantasy XV will last players around 40-50 hours.
