Ex-Bizarre Creations chap Pete Wallace has headed up a new studio by the name of Lucid Games.
Bizarre shut its doors last Friday for reasons described by former employee Gareth Wilson as “a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances.” Wilson has since joined up with UK-based studio Sumo Digital.
However, with the opening of the North Western-based Lucid Games, senior manager Wallace now hopes to accommodate up to 50 new jobs for former Bizarre staff.
"The idea is to take the spirit of Bizarre Creations and see if we can improve on that," said Wallace, during a chinwag with the Liverpool Daily Post.
"People were aware there were going to be cuts. But the closure of the studio just wasn’t expected at all. Most people didn’t want to move away from the area, even though they’re well-placed to go and work in Seattle or Canada."
Andy Davidson, commercial director for Lucid Games, added that he’s keen to have the fresh-faced studio replicate Bizarre’s success: "We know people are being targeted by headhunters and being asked about moving, particularly to Canada," said Davidson.
"We want to get back to the levels of innovation and creativity at Bizarre that made Activision so keen to acquire it."
Apparently, Lucid is on the verge of securing contracts that will allow Wallace and chums to grow the business, and is expected to be in attendance at GDC next week.
