Shapeshifter Games has been established by a number of developers who previously worked at the now-shuttered Volition, the studio that worked on the Saints Row titles.
The new studio, which is based in Champaign, Illinois, and is set to be a co-development studio, meaning it will partner with other studios and publishers to support the development of AAA titles. According to Matt Madigan, the head of Shapeshifter Games, the goal is “to grow and assist developers and publishers by providing a sustainable workforce model.”
Founded by veteran developers from Volition, Shapeshifter Games was created to partner with world class developers and publishers on the creation of AAA games. Shapeshifter draws upon deep experience in open-world and character action games earned while working on some of the industry’s most beloved franchises.

The LinkedIn profile for Shapeshifter Games has confirmed that the company is working with a “top publisher” on an unnamed IP.
