The first Red Dead Redemption, released in 2010, may finally be coming to PC. Fans of the original game have long been waiting for such an announcement, and although it wasn’t an announcement, per se, there is hope for PC players.
The spark of hope was ignited after the game’s description in the PlayStation Store was changed, hinting at a PC port.
Red Dead Redemption was first limited to Xbox360 and PlayStation 3 until Rockstar Games released it on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in mid-2023. Following the shift to these consoles, the game flew to the top of the PlayStation charts, however, fans were quick to leave negative reviews when they realised it was not a remaster of the game, but simply a port. With no new content on the Switch and PS4 versions and a hefty $50 for the game, fans were left upset.
One year since this somewhat controversial release, it seems that Red Dead Redemption may finally be coming to PC. The title’s description on the PlayStation store mysteriously changed to include “Experience the epic western adventures that defined a generation – now on PC for the first time ever”, despite there being no PC version as of yet. This description change is new, as it has not been present on an internet archive site since April 2024.
The description on the PlayStation Store continues: “Featuring the complete single-player experiences of both games, including bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition, Red Dead Redemption features all of the 2023 console version upgrades, plus PC-specific enhancements including support for increased resolutions and framerates, multiple displaces, and other accessories, plus spatial surround sound.”
This has got fans excited, as it seems to insinuate that the PC port includes Undead Nightmare, which is additional downloadable content for the game.
Players of the game would know that gambling is a popular activity of the main character, John Marston. Marston can enter saloons, play poker and blackjack, and even wager on arm wrestling and horseshoes.
While PC players wait for the PC version to (hopefully) be released, they can channel their inner Marston and play real money slots inspired by Red Dead Redemption. This update was surprising to fans of the game and was received with mixed feelings since the game developer failed to create a unique PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version when it released the game for Switch and PS4.
It’s uncertain what the PC game would look like, as it is unlikely it will be a remastered version.
Fortunately, the modding community has always stepped up when needed most, and mods can transform the Red Dead Redemption PC port into a gorgeous remastered-looking game.
