Ghost Recon Wildlands gets new E3 2016 gameplay footage

At their E3 2016 presser, Ubisoft showcased some thunderous new gameplay footage from Ghost Recon Wildlands on PS4.

Before all that gameplay goodness however, a CGI video provides the backdrop to the chief bad guy of Ghost Recon Wildlands with a mysterious, yet stern sounding narrator, professing to be the leader of drug cartel and threatening death and destruction upon his people if they do not serve him.

In short, the player and their team of crack Ghost Recon operatives are pitted against the corrupt Bolivian government and the villainous Santa Blanca cartel and the ensuing video shows off everything from sniper attacks to drone strikes.

Once into the gameplay, we see the Ghost Recon unit tasked with taking down a butcher in the San Mateo province who makes witnesses disappear.

Holed up in a camp on a mountain, there a number of ways that the player can reach the objective. Instead of going on foot or via a road vehicle, the new gameplay shows the player hopping on a helicopter and flying up to the mountain stronghold before disembarking and making their way towards their target.

On the way extra players join the group and it becomes clear that there are multiple ways to approach the target. In the demo, we see the team of operatives take a stealthy approach; taking out unsuspecting guards with silenced sniper rifles at range and snapping necks when they get up close.

Clearly, there is an opportunity to go guns blazing too and the game certainly invites a great deal of creative latitude in this regard.

Of course, everything goes to pot as the mark escapes on a dirt bike and the various members of the Ghost Recon unit give chase in a variety of bikes and cars that lead far outside the boundary of the camp, showing off the massive open world in the process. A fourth player meanwhile, gets back in the helicopter to provide surveillance coverage on the target vehicle just as the unit extract the mark, stuff him in the chopper and leave just as the cartel reinforcements show up.

With a massive campaign that can be played either in solo or up to four player in co-op, Ubisoft proudly boasted that Ghost Recon Wildlands is the largest open world adventure that the company has ever done in its thirty year history.
