Faye God of War God of War Laufey News PS5 Sony Santa Monica Studio

God Of War Laufey Is Set In A Land Called The Everywhen, Both The Greek & Norse Era Had An Influence On Faye

Cory Barlog and Ariel Lawrence of Sony Santa Monica Studio have shared some key details on the newly-announced God of War Laufey, confirming the game’s location is known as Everwhen, which is essentially the afterlife of the Gods. Furthermore, it picks up right after Faye’s body is burnt at the beginning of God of War (2018), so it’s not a prequel.

Two of the most notable characters in the gameplay reveal yesterday are Begtse, the Mongolian god of war, and Sekhmet, a powerful figure in Egyptian mythology, and is associated with plagues, vengeance, and medicine. Barlog notes that Everywhen is far from the friendliest of places, however.

They’re all assholes. Literally every god that exists in all of the mythologies has this really terrible relationship with power and how they abuse all of it. When you put all those people – like a bunch of billionaires on an island – they think they’re gonna have a happy life. No, they’re all going to fight each other , they’re all going to be in this strange sense of conflict because they’re locked in a prison.

As for Faye, she’s more than capable of holding her own in combat, but obviously very different than Kratos; she’s more agile, channeling fancy aerobatics and speed rather than Kratos’ brute strength. Lawrence had the following to say on Faye:

The Greek era had an influence on Faye. The Norse era has an influence on Faye. So going [back] to our more agile, fluid combat roots but also retaining our companions, our gritty closer combat. How do those marry together and then make something that’s uniquely Faye-feeling while still being a Santa Monica game?

God of War Laufey is in development for PS5 and is currently without a release date.
