God of War PS4 could be getting a multiplayer after all

A new job listing posting by developer Sony Santa Monica Studio has suggested that God of War PS4 may include a multiplayer component.

The posting describes a call for a Senior Multiplayer Programmer, and is detailed below (via TheWolfHall).

“Senior Multiplayer Programmer

Santa Monica Studio is seeking a Senior Multiplayer Programmer to join our team behind the critically acclaimed God of War games. We value talent, self-motivation, and team spirit. In turn, we provide an environment with a large degree of freedom and autonomy.

You are a multiplayer coder – that’s your thing. You know both the back and front ends, and understand the tech and the architecture. And you want all players to have the best possible shared experience, because you are one of them.

And you are talented and motivated, with tons of initiative. You get things done. Sound interesting? If so, give us a shout.”

God of War PS4 multiplayer was previously denied

The California-based studio previously said that God of War PS4 would be a single-player only experience, so either they’ve had a change of heart, or the above job posting pertains to a brand new IP instead. Regardless, it’s an interesting development to say the least.

God of War was announced during Sony’s E3 2016 press conference last summer, and was accompanied by a full-blown orchestra and lengthy gameplay demo. The game sees Kratos mixing it up with various creatures plucked from Norse Mythology, although this time he also has a young son to contend with. Sony has yet to confirm a God of War release date, but marketing efforts suggest an announcement could drop soon enough.

Sony has confirmed that Kratos’ next bloody outing will feature an in-depth RPG system and larger environments, with the action likely clocked at 30fps. Regardless whether or not the game features a multiplayer component, the team has promised that God of War PS4 is going to be pretty meaty in terms of length.
