Rockstar Games has added a Classic Lighting option for the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: The Definitive Edition on consoles, some two years after the last patch was released for the collection.
The Classic Lighting option was featured in the movie versions of the GTA Trilogy last year, a release which was met with considerably more praise than the console and PC versions of the collection. A blog post by Rockstar at the time of its release mentioned the classic lighting mode “that restores the look and feel of the sky in the original games.”

The update has already been met with hugely positive feedback from fans, who note that the improvements to the visuals as a result of the classic lighting option are very noticeable. In related news, it also looks like Grove Street Games, the original creator behind the GT Trilogy, have been removed from the credits along with their logos.
The original release of GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition was met with a lot of criticism due to its various bugs and poor optimisation on consoles, including some particularly irksome weather effects. Things got so bad that Rockstar Games released a statement stating that it was going to improve the game in future updates, and indeed a large patch was released soon after to remedy many of its issues.
Sadly however the game still wasn’t in the best shape it could have been, and its various problems marred would should have been a stellar collection of classic games. The mobile version for many was everything GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition should have been at launch.
