Take-Two chief Strauss Zelnick has said that he expects the release of Grand Theft Auto VI to spike sales of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Speaking with IGN, the executive discussed the falling sales of current-generation hardware as both Sony and Microsoft’s systems approach their five anniversary later this year. Nintendo on the other hand has the Switch 2 on the horizon, and there’s no concrete news yet on successors to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
However, Zelnick doesn’t see this as an issue, as he feels that GTA VI is bound to cause a surge in sales as gamers flock to the new game, which is only slated for release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. After all, major software releases are no stranger to boosting hardware sales, and a game like GTA VI is about as a big as you can get

When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles. And I think that will happen this year. I don’t think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I’m not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you’d want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC.
Speaking in its earnings call last week, Zelnick remained adamant that GTA VI is going to make its Fall 2025 release window.
