According to Rockstar Mag’s Chris Klippel, the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 will utilise the Rage 9 engine, the journalist describes as “ahead of its time.”
A Tweet (translated by thegamespoof) reads:
Of course, the new version of the #RockstarGames graphics engine (RAGE9) that will be used in # GTA6 will probably be amazing. I’ve been able to get some positive information and we really shouldn’t be disappointed. We are talking about an engine that will be ahead of its time.

Rockstar Games confirmed earlier this year that GTA 6 is in development, but there’s on release date in sight yet. Previous reports have claimed that the game will launch in 2025, and Klippel himself said back in March that the game had reached a ‘major milestone‘ in production.
Back in November 2021, the co-founder of Rockstar Games claimed that GTA 6 may not be ‘as edgy or quite as funny’ as previous instalments.
