Guerrilla’s Eric Boltjes talks voice features in Killzone 2

Speaking with Kikizo, Guerrilla Games developer Eric Boltjes offered some insight into the unique features available in the voice chat support for Killzone 2.

With the ability to set specific chat channels with your squads, along with the option to talk with team members within a proximity of your character, it sounds like Guerrilla Games are bringing more than just pretty graphics to the table with the highly anticipated shooter.

"The way it works is that besides the squad channels we’ve talked about you also have a proximity channel, and that’s based on distance and how loud you speak," said Boltjes. "So what happens is that if you’re talking to your team and an enemy’s nearby, he can hear you as well. It’s a gameplay element in that sense."

In regards to the availability of people to talk to while in-game, Boltjes also gave his thoughts on headset use for the PlayStation 3 and how the number of people utilizing the hardware is growing.

"It’s definitely getting bigger, more and more people are using it, but because Sony and the PS3 don’t give one with the platform itself it’s, yeah, not as popular as on the Xbox 360," he said. "But we do see it getting bigger and bigger."

With Killzone 2 in its last months of balancing and polishing, we hope that everything will launch smoothly when the game hits store shelves February 27.
