Bloomberg has reported that the Dungeons & Dragons game in production at Giant Skull, the studio formed by God of War III director Stig Asmussen, has been scrapped.
While the project was only announced in June last year, Hasbro has now decided to cancel the title. “While we decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship,” commented Wizards of the Coast, which added it was continuing to take new pitches from Giant Skull. Meanwhile, Asmussen commented that “things are good at Giant Skull.”
Giant Skull was formed in March 2024 by Asmussen following his work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, with the goal of building “gameplay-driven story immersed action-adventure games set in captivating worlds.” Its debut project was confirmed to be utilising the Unreal Engine, with Asmussen joined by a team that includes Jon Carr, Patrick Murphy, and Lauren McLemore.
Fast forward to June 2025, and it was confirmed that developer was teaming with Wizards of the Cost to produce a game based in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Asmussen commented at the time that “our goal is to craft a rich new Dungeons & Dragons universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.”
