While overall, successful and high-quality video game to tv and film adaptations are still in their youth, it was clear from the start that HBO’s The Last Of Us was going to make waves and set records, and on Monday it continued to do that.
The nominees for the 81st Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday, revealing that The Last Of Us has been nominated in three categories; Best Television Series (Drama), Best Performance By A Male Actor In A Television Series (Drama) for Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Best Performance By A Female Actor In A Television Series (Drama) for Bella Ramsey’s Ellie.
It’s a historic moment for the show of course, but more for what this says about the kinds of adaptations we’re getting now, and the quality that we’re finally beginning to see.
Of course not every show is The Last Of Us, it’s noticeable that Twisted Metal isn’t nominated at all, but now that The Last Of Us has broken that seal, hopefully the adaptations that follow will only continue to make history.
It could very well be that live-action or even animated video game adaptations will soon be appearing even at historic shows like The Oscars.
