Hideki Kamiya, the director of 1998’s Resident Evil 2, is seemingly having trouble with Resident Evil Requiem as it’s too scar for him, and has called for Capcom to implement a ‘non-scary mode’ so he can just enjoy the combat and puzzles.
The veteran game developer is now working on an Okami sequel at Clovers Inc., but has taken time of out his busy schedule to check out his former company’s latest effort. In a video post by Clovers, we can see Kamiya-san watch a colleague play Resident Evil Requiem, to which he comments:
“I’ve been saying forever, they should make a ‘non-scary mode.’ Look, I just want to enjoy the puzzles. The puzzles and the combat,” he said. “I don’t need the scary stuff.”
Resident Evil Requiem was released for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S on February 27, 2026. Capcom recently announced that it is going to support the game with a number of post-launch content, including a Photo Mode, a mini-game, and story expansion.
