Easy Trigger Games and Coffee Stain Publishing have announced Huntdown Overtime, a glorious tribute to VHS-era blockbusters featuring retro-flavoured pixel art and over-the-top action-oriented gameplay.
Huntdown Overtime offers a roguelite loop that has been designed for adrenaline-pumping action, with players nabbing bounties and surviving for as long as they can. Serving as a prequel to the original Huntdown, this fast-paced romp takes place in New Detroit, 2084, where gangs run rampant, and is the origins story for John Sawyer has he transitions from man to cybernetic legend. You’ll hunt, die, upgrade, and repeat as you explore the neon-soaked streets and desolate wastelands in search of your next bounty.
Naturally, players will have a wealth of firearms and melee weapons at their disposal, plus a bunch of cybernetic upgrades and weapon licenses that are hidden throughout enemy territory. Unlock permanent upgrades between runs and adjust how Sawyer dishes out punishment, transforming him into a deadly killing machine with everything from reinforced limbs to experimental combat mods.
As mentioned, Huntdown Overtime relishes in its 80s aesthetic, with its lush VHS-era landscape brimming with swagger that you can only get from early 80s B-movies. “No pretty neon nostalgia,” says the press blurb. “Welcome to the grindhouse. Welcome to Overtime.”
Huntdown Overtime is currently slated to launch on Steam in Early Access during the second quarter of 2026, and since the original came to PS4, there’s hope this will eventually arrive on Sony consoles.
