According to the latest VGC podcast, PlayStation is working on a revival of the inFAMOUS franchise for PS5, although right now it isn’t know if it’s a remake or a brand new entry in the franchise.
Jordan Middler revealed that he’s “under the impression that there is an inFAMOUS thing happening somewhere else in PlayStation at the minute,” and noted that Sucker Punch Productions, the studio behind the original games, isn’t involved in the project. Later that day, Greg Miller on the Kinda Funny podcast called Middler and asked him to elaborate on the scoop, to which Middler said he only heard it from a single source and had yet to corroborate it.
However, the VGC journalist added that, based on what he was informed, it is believed that the project will be a remake of the first two inFAMOUS titles for PS5. “That wasn’t told to me directly, but that was very much implied,” he said. He also added that there was a chance it could have been scrapped.
Sucker Punch Productions not be involved in the project isn’t surprising seeing as how they have been busy with Ghost of Yotei the past few years.
Last July, the studio’s creative director, Nate Fox, said that while he’d love to work on more inFAMOUS games – including seeing the original games get re-released – it wasn’t possible at the time as Sucker Punch is a one-game studio. Right now it’s unknown what its next project will be.
The inFAMOUS franchise launched for the PS3 back in 2009, plucking inspiration from comic books and superhero franchises and spawned two sequels: inFAMOUS 2 (2011) and inFAMOUS Second Son (2014). Sucker Punch was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment following the release of the second game, and after finishing up work on inFAMOUS Second Son shifted gears to working on a new IP, Ghost of Tsushima.
