Inside the PlayStation Universe: Steven Williamson – General Manager

As we hit the weekend, PlayStation Universe will be bringing you a set of brand new features entitled Inside the PlayStation Universe where members of the team will let you know what they’ve been up to during the week, what they think of some of the hottest news and what’s on their current playlist of PlayStation titles.

First up, we begin with Steven Williamson, the GM of PSU who spends his days managing the site and making sure everything is ticking like clockwork.

Name: Steven Williamson
Title: General Manager

What games have you been playing this week?
My head is fried this week thanks largely to the mental and surreal Killer Is Dead from Suda 51 and Vita’s JRPG Persona 4 Golden. I’m currently on Episode 7 of Killer Is Dead and loving the character of the main womanising protagonist and the bizarre selection of contract kills he has to carry out, like the hit against the 7 foot 9 Yakuza Don who has a tiger tattoo on his back that springs to life. The combat is intense, though the creepy side-missions involving ogling women’s breasts seem way out of context.

Persona 4 Golden is intense in a different way with its riveting storyline and sublime animation. I’m about 12 hours in and despite Nanako driving me mad singing the Junes jingle over and over again, there’s not a Vita game since Uncharted: Golden Abyss that has demanded my attention so much.

I’ve also had time this week to start playing The Last Of Us Again (I’ve just met up with Robert) and spent a few hours on Far Cry 3 (hasn’t that got one of the best villains ever?) scaling radio towers as I aim toward completion. Also, I’ve just had Saints Row IV turn up today so can’t wait for some of that. Of course, I always find time to play Candy Crush on my smartphone!

What feature, review or piece of news caught your eye on PSU in the last seven days and why?
The news about UK retailers no longer being able to guarantee PS4 deliveries for launch day makes me wonder why we always have this situation when a new console launches? Why isn’t the timeline planned better so that more consoles can be produced to cope with demand. I feel really sorry for the people who have left it late and desperately want a PS4 at launch. Stupidly, I left it quite late too. I pre-ordered a PS4 on Amazon on August 5th. According to the latest report, I think I’m just about guaranteed one but only got in there by the skin of my teeth.

What are you doing when you’re not a PSU editor?
This week, I’ve mainly been spending time with the family and specifically my newborn boy, Bertie, who is 5 weeks old. His back makes a great Vita rest and we’ll soon find out if violence in videogames makes future nutters because he quite likes sitting with me while playing Far Cry 3. I did also make time to watch my favourite football team, Walsall FC win. I’m a season ticket holder so will be watching them religiously this year.

Catch you next week!
