Katamari creator’s next game dated, priced

The creatively, colourfully disturbing Noby Noby Boy, a PlayStation Network title from Katamari Damacy developer Keita Takahashi, is down for release in Japan on January 29. While Sony has yet to confirm North American and European release dates, according to 1UP the game is due out simultaneously worldwide.

Noby Noby Boy is hard to pigeonhole. In short, you control a pink worm with feet named BOY, moving his front half with the left analog stick and his back half with the right. Eating objects found in the game world allows you to stretch your belly, and the idea – much as in Snake, that most venerable of videogames – is simply to make yourself as long as possible. The catch is that the longer you get, the more likely your distended midsection is to snap.

At any point you can report your length to GIRL, a giant stretchy entity floating in space above the Earth’s surface. As players from around the globe sign into PSN and report their lengths, GIRL extends to reach other planets, thereby unlocking new levels for the BOYs to play in.

All of which makes our head hurt, frankly, though the game looks rather charming in motion. Noby Noby Boy will cost a mere JPY 800 (USD 9) in Japan, and will hopefully be available at a similar price elsewhere.
