Warner Bros. has revealed during an earnings report with shareholders that development on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is officially underway, which is hardly a surprise the original has sold over 40 million units globally.
The company mentioned “the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” while discussing how WB Games will “meaningfully contribute to segment profitability” down the line. The full quote is as follows, “We expect games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”
While this is the first time we’ve heard that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, it’s not the first instance that the sequel has been mentioned. Back in 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Chief Financial Officer, Gunnar Wiedenfels, stated that “a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road.”
It’s worth mentioning at this point that Hogwarts Legacy was set to receive an expansion and Director’s Cut release at some point, but Bloomberg stated in March last year that these plans had been shelved. A report from Insider-Gaming in October 2024 claimed that this Director’s Cut version would add 10-15 hours of new content.
Interestingly, a job listing from December 2025 has strongly hinted that the Hogwarts Legacy sequel could feature a multiplayer component.
Hogwarts Legacy was released in February 2023 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, with a PS4 and Xbox One version following in the summer and a Nintendo Switch edition coming at the end of the year. You can read our full review here.
