Avalanche Software has posted up a new job listing for a Senior Software Engineer, indicating it is looking to add multiplayer to the in-development Hogwarts Legacy sequel.
Here’s the full description of the job:
Avalanche, a division of WB Games Inc., is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team of talented industry veterans working on a new online multiplayer RPG. This person will work closely with project engineering, art, and design leadership to architect and implement the backend infrastructure for an online multiplayer RPG.
Other details mentioned in the requirements for the job include involvement in “Design, implement, and maintain stable and secured backend services, including player data persistent, matchmaking, lobbies, and server infrastructure.”
It’s worth noting that the job listing does not explicitly state that it pertains to a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, but in the general blurb advertising the job, it mentions about joining the team “behind the blockbuster open world, action RPG Hogwarts Legacy.” So, either Avalanche is working on something else alongside Hogwarts Legacy 2, the job is surely for that project.
All we know so far about Hogwarts Legacy 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) is that it’s currently in production. We’ve also heard previous rumours that an expansion and a Director’s Cut of the original game were in the pipeline too, but it’s now believed this is no longer happening.
Hogwarts Legacy was originally released for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in February 2023, and was followed by PS4 and Xbox One versions in July and a Nintendo Switch version in November. The game was also ported to Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch title in June 2025. Hogwarts Legacy was confirmed last week to have sold 40 million units globally.
