Hogwarts Legacy was, to the surprise of many, the best-selling game for 2023, beating out the regular winners like the annual Call Of Duty or EA FC release, or Grand Theft Auto V.
Following up from that kind of success has been a high-priority for Warner Bros. Interactive, and in a new report from Variety we’ve finally got confirmation that yes indeed a sequel is in development.
What’s more though is that this coming sequel will, according to WB Interactive president David Haddad, will also feature story tie-ins with HBO’s upcoming TV series reboot for the franchise.
Variety writes “the games team has been coordinating some of the big-picture storytelling elements in the “Hogwarts Legacy” sequel with the storylines that will play out in the ‘Harry Potter’ HBO series coming from Warner Bros. Television.”
It’ll be interesting to see how these narrative connections come to fruition. Hogwarts Legacy is purposely set centuries before the events of the Harry Potter books so players can feel like they’re having their own adventure, and developers didn’t have to be too concerned about stepping on any figurative toes regarding the story.
Now that they’ll have to tie together, that’s definitely impact the development process, and could potentially lead to some great moments of collaboration or a failed experiment that brings down two ships instead of just one.
