Ghost Story Games boss Ken Levine has revealed how his new game Judas differs from previous offerings BioShock and BioShock Infinite, which he describes as ‘basically a corridor’ with various trigger points that kick off new story beats.
Here’s what he had to say during a chat with GamesIndustry.biz:
BioShock and BioShock Infinite, if you look at them from a development standpoint – and this may be a bit alienating to some readers – but they’re basically a corridor. A very, very long corridor with a bunch of trigger points that make story elements happen. Judas is made very, very differently and that makes it much more hopefully reflective of players agency, but also much, much harder to make.
Levine described how Judas will be “observing players” and will then react to various things that happen. “Even just characters observing a long range of player action and commenting on it. Hey, you saw this and you did that and then you did this and that was interesting because that caused that’ – we’re doing that kinda stuff right now.”

The BioShock creator described the process a huge amount of work because you have to think of all the things a player can do and then write in-character response for different characters to those actions in a way that feels organic.”
Judas has yet to attract a release date, although back in early 2023 it was revealed the game was targeting a release by the end of March 2025. That seems as bit unlikely at this point, but last January Ghost Story Games confirmed Judas is still on track to launch at some point this year.
