Square Enix has released a brand new screenshot for the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 3, confirming Disney’s Donald Duck is once again joining in on the action.
The screenshot was revealed during a lecture by Square Enix’s Witawat Rungjiratananon during Siggraph Asia 2015. Check it out below.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game was announced after years of rumours during Sony’s E3 2013 press conference alongside Final Fantasy XV, formally known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Square Enix has not yet confirmed a release date for the game, although Tetsuya Nomura has said he knows when the sequel will launch—he’s just not telling us. Regardless, the team has indicated the game may not see the light of day for a while yet, so don’t expect it out any time soon.
Unlike previous entries in the action-RPG series, Kingdom Hearts 3 won’t include Quick-Time Events, though will incorporate a host of popular franchises into the mix, including Big Hero 6. In addition, Square Enix has also suggested that the game will introduce a third playable character into the mix this time around, while players can also expect a host of new keyblade transformations. Still, while the game may be some way off, Kingdom Hearts fans also have Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter to look forward to on PS4.
Kingdom Hearts was released on the PlayStation 2 back in 2002 and received a sequel two years later. Until the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3 two years ago, the franchise was fleshed out via numerous spin-off titles and prequels, including Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep on PlayStation Portable and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance on Nintendo 3DS.
