Square Enix has announced that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue will be released globally on PlayStation 4 this December.
To celebrate the announcement, the publisher has rolled out a fresh trailer for fans to feast their eyes on. The footage shines the spotlight on original keyblade holder, Aqua, who battles against Heartless. Check it out below.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 is something of a stop gap for those waiting on Kingdom Hearts III, which we sadly won’t find out anything more on until winter this year, Square Enix confirmed. That’s despite previous reports suggesting the game would be showing up at E3 next week.
Final Chapter Prologue includes a high-definition remake of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, plus the complementary Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage to help flesh out the series’ sprawling narrative.
This isn’t the first Kingdom Hearts Collection that we’ve seen. Square Enix previously released Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX for the PS3.
As for Kingdom Hearts III, that’s currently in development for the PS4 and Xbox One, although a release date continues to remain elusive. The game was originally announced nearly three years ago during Sony’s E3 2013 press event.
