News PlayStation PlayStation Visual Art Layoffs Sony Visual Arts Group

Layoffs Have Reportedly Hit PlayStation’s Visual Arts Division

Sony‘s PlayStation division has suffered another round of layoffs according to recent reports, among which includes a number of staff losing their jobs at the format holder’s Visual Arts team.

Among those who have lost their jobs include Daniel Bellemere, who served as senior level designer, who took to LinkedIn to share the news. Bellemere was working on an unannounced project, and is based in San Diego, although it’s unknown if he was part of Visual Arts Group or Sony San Diego itself.

Unfortunately, following a wave of layoffs last week was my last at PlayStation. While this is certainly not the news I was hoping for, I’m grateful to have had a chance to work amongst extremely talented colleagues on incredible projects and I’m leaving with good memories of my time there.

Meanwhile, Matt Barney, also revealed that he has left Sony, as has rigging artist Sean Teo, who worked on The Last of Us Part 1. Both of them offered the following statements on social media:

Goodbye PlayStation / Sony Interactive Entertainment, it’s been real! 👋 For the past few months, I knew this layoff wave was coming 🌊 I love PlayStation & I always will… I mean, I stayed when I had the chance to leave, so obviously!

Hey everyone, my contract at PlayStation Visual Arts has unfortunately come to an end. I am currently looking for a new role and I am flexible with working on video games, cinematic films, and commercial work.

This isn’t the first time this year that Visual Arts has suffered from layoffs, as back in May a former employee revealed that restructuring within the company had resulted in a number of staff losing their jobs.
