Life is Strange launch trailer drops, free trial confirmed

The first episode in DONTNOD’s episodic adventure Life Is Strange is due to launch tomorrow, January 30, 2015 but the developer says it is still hard at work on episode’s three to five.

In episode one, named Chrysalis, players get an introduction to Max and Chloe who throughout the game have to make choices that influence their destiny, not just in this episode but also in future ones.

Developed by the intrepid minds behind last year’s futuristic action-adventure offering, Remember Me, Life is Strange is an entirely new IP with a host of distinct twists that deviate from the conventional gaming narrative we’ve grown accustomed to.

The game centres around a search for a missing girl and the reconnection of past friends Max Caulfield and Chloe. Things take an interesting twist when the former realizing that she can rewind time, which sets in motion a plethora of decision-based events that’ll affect both girls forever.

In the press release that accompanies the launch trailer, DONTNOD says that:

“This first episode is also an introduction to the general mechanics of the game and although Life is Strange emphasizes story and choice over puzzles, you will also see an evolution over the next episodes in terms of how you need to combine different types of interactions and rewinds.”

A free trial will be available for PS3 and PS4. A single episode costs £3.99, but you can also buy a Season Pass for all five episodes for £15.99
