Showcased during Xbox’s Partner Preview event on Thursday, RGG Studio’s latest and potentially its wackiest entry into the Like A Dragon saga, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will now launch a week earlier than previously stated.
When the game was revealed last month it was originally set to arrive on February 28, 2025. Now, as was revealed in the Thursday trailer, it’ll launch on February 21, 2025.
As if it wasn’t impressive enough that RGG Studio was releasing another full-fledged Like A Dragon title just after getting Infinite Wealth out the door, the team went ahead and said we can have Majima’s pirate adventure a week early.
The new trailer also showed off how players can customize their ship, and the intense naval battles that’ll take place. In an interview with Xbox Wire, chief producer on Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Hiroyuki Sakamoto spoke about the naval combat and also how the idea for Pirate Yakuza came about in the first place.
“We actually came up with the idea for this game while we were still creating Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth,” Sakamoto said on where it came from.
“And we wondered what the three main characters, Majima, Saejima and Daigo would do after the story ended. The idea came from compiling a history that would explain what happened to them after the events of Infinite Wealth, into a big side story.”
Without going into too much detail, digging into the naval combat, Sakamoto said While we cannot reveal details just yet, players can expect exciting cannon battles and a whole lot of action, both between ships and brawls. We will share a more in-depth look at the naval combat system in the future, but we hope the new trailer has got you excited for the open sea adventure you’ll embark on.”
