Douglas Riley, Vice President of Lucasfilm Games, has revealed in a recent interview that the company is exploring numerous Star Wars projects that will continue to “surprise” fans, noting the studio is trying to adopt a more flexible approach to who they are willing to take pitches from.
I think we’ve tried to be more flexible about like…who we’re willing to take pitches from and good ideas can come from a lot of different places. You don’t have to necessarily be a top five publisher to make a great Star Wars game. We have a high-quality bar, and we want to make sure there are excellent experiences, and that means typically you work with more experienced teams than, you know, new teams who have no track record of making great things.
We’re exploring all kinds of things that large and small with partners that I think are going to continue to surprise folks who are like, ‘Oh, they’re doing a thing with them. That might be interesting to see how that turns out.
The Star Wars franchise has seen a couple of major releases this year including Star Wars Galactic Racer and Star Wars Zero Company, while future projects include a third instalment in the Star Wars: Jedi series, a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic.
The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has endured a tumultuous development cycle, having shifted from Aspyr Media to Saber Interactive and has been keeping a low profile for years now. However, a report from July this year has claimed that the game could be re-revealed soon.
