Mass Effect Andromeda confirmed for early 2017 release on PS4

BioWare has revealed that Mass Effect Andromeda, the next chapter in its hugely successful science-fiction RPG franchise, will launch in early 2017.

Writing in a post on the game’s official website, the developer teased a number of elements that gamers can expect from the hotly anticipated title, which takes place in a completely different part of the galaxy to the original Mass Effect Trilogy.

"As we’ve been playing the game at the studio recently, it’s showing us that we’re taking the game in the right direction. But we also know we need the right amount of time to make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be – that’s our commitment from all of us to all of you," commented BioWare General Manager, Aaryn Flynn.

"Because of that, Mass Effect: Andromeda will now ship in early 2017. We can’t wait to show you how far we’re all going to go. We’ll see you at the EA PLAY press conference on June 12, with an update."

News of the game’s release window shouldn’t come as a surprise. Publisher Electronic confirmed earlier this year that Mass Effect Andromeda will launch between January – March 2017, although an exact date has yet to be revealed.

Mass Effect Andromeda is currently in development for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One. The game has been described as a spiritual successor to the first Mass Effect, and it’s not hard to see why: it’ll feature the return of the much-loved Mako, for one thing.
