Media Molecule’s New IP Will Reportedly Feature ‘Open-World Content’

Media Molecule, the studio behind LittleBigPlanet and Dreams, has been working on a brand new IP for its next project, with the portfolio of an artist at the company revealing a few interesting details on the game.

The resume contains a specific mention of “open-world content” as the artists responsibilities are listed as being the “feature owner, main contract/vision holder of various “open-world content.” Other duties listed on the resume include “calibrating with multiple disciplines, including leading peers, tech designers, programmers, artists and production.”

Media Molecule co-founder Mark Healey revealed during a chat with Ben Hanson in May 2024 that the studio’s next project will be “more of a game than a creative tool,” although at this point Healey had actually departed the developer. “Sony has still got a lot of faith in Media Molecule, at the very least they’re going to get to make this game” he said.

In August last year it was revealed that David Smith, co-founder of the studio alongside Healey, had departed the studio after 20 years with the company to “focus on personal creative projects.”

Media Molecule’s most recent title, Dreams, was released for the PS4 in February 2020 and gives users a wealth of creative opportunities to craft unique experiences, building on the user-created content originally established LittleBigPlanet. You can read our full review here.
