Following the lifting of the global review embargo for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain a story has been circulating (and causing much furore) about Konamis’ forward-operating-base (FOB) multiplayer mode being restricted behind a paywall. Of course, the mere mention of micro-transactions got many fans hot under the collar.
The initial story was reported by Gamespot, but Konami has now waded in to slam the claims. In a statement sent to PC gamer, Konami has confirmed that FOB will be accessible to all, though it will feature some micro-transactions.
Here’s what Konami had to say…
"Gamespot posted an article following the review that the PVP (FOB) mode in MGSV TPP will be restricted behind a micro-transaction paywall and that is simply not true. The FOB mode will be fully accessible at launch and the micro-transaction layer to that specific feature in the game primarily acts as an accelerator. We’ll have more details at launch, but we did try and clear these rumours up when they started circulating during E3. We even addressed this in our official E3 2015 demo when it went live during that show."
So, you can all breathe a sigh of relief. And as you exhale, go check out our Metal Gear Solid 5 review.
