Konami announced at Gamescom earlier this month that it is developing a new chapter in the stealth-action franchise known as Metal Gear Survive, due out on PS4 and Xbox One some time next year.

This spinoff title takes place in an alternate timeline following the events of Ground Zeroes, and sees survivors of Mother Base being transported to a mysterious and hostile dimension via wormholes. Players must team up to fight against zombie-like foes and survive the harsh environment.

Metal Gear Survive is significant in the sense it is the first instalment in the franchise to be developed following the departure of series creator, Hideo Kojima, who left Konami late last year.

Konami has previously said that Metal Gear Solid 6 is a possibility although will require a lot of investment to get off the ground.
