Michel Ancel talks of an ambitious future for Beyond Good and Evil 2

The creator of Beyond Good and Evil, Michel Ancel, has spoken to IGN about the status of the anticipated sequel and why it hasn’t seen release on current-generation consoles.

Ancel claimed that the game was "too big" for the current generation, but that it might have a place in the next. He explained that "you have to scale what you want to do and the console itself. I think now with those new consoles arriving, yes, we want to try making that game."

He said that what he wants to bring to the table with Beyond Good and Evil 2 is not size, but freedom. "In this kind of game, while you’re investigating, you don’t want to investigate in a story that has been written by the developers. My feeling is that you want to investigate with your own way of investigating."

Ancel stated an intention to improve upon previous efforts. "It was in Beyond Good & Evil 1 but it was not as much as we wanted". The first game was set in an open world, but had small hub areas.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first, unofficially, announced by Ancel in 2008 during an interview with JeuxVideo Magazine. An HD re-release of the original Beyond Good and Evil can be bought on PlayStation Network.
