Xbox format holder Microsoft ranked as the world’s biggest game publisher during December 2024, with $465 million spent on games from the Redmond, Washington-based company.
Data from Ampere reveals that Call of Duty Black Ops 6 was one of the biggest-selling titles during the Holiday season last year, pulling in 38 million monthly users in November 2024 and putting in an equally strong performance in December. Furthermore, 64% of consumer spending on Microsoft games that month was attributed to PlayStation formats, driven largely by Call of Duty.

Electronic Arts came in second place, but Ampere notes that Microsoft was comfortably ahead of the them, with EA having generated $366 million. Meanwhile, data revealed that Fortnite players spent 30 million hours playing the game on Christmas Day, meaning the average player on the battle royale title spent about 2.3 hours on Fortnite on that day. In addition, Call of Duty player spent 20 million hours playing franchise titles on the same day.
Other popular titles during December last year include Marvel Rivals and Path of Exile 2, which attracted 29 million monthly active users and $148 million, respectively.
Earlier this week, the CEO of Moon Studios predicted that Sony will likely follow Microsoft’s footsteps and abandon console exclusivity.
