Microsoft Says The ‘Last Thing We Want Is To Take Something Away’ In Regards To Major Acquisitions

Microsoft’s Matt Booty has touched base on the Xbox console maker’s major acquisitions, insisting the last thing that the company wants to do is ‘take something away’ from players on other consoles.

If we acquire a game that comes with a big community across a number of platforms, the last thing we want to do is take something away If anything, we feel that it’s our job to be caretakers, to be shepherds, to continue to build and nurture that community, not to cut it up into pieces and try to take some of it away.

There’s obviously a lot of ground to cover when it comes to Microsoft’s acquisitions, as they’ve snapped up Bethesda and are currently working on closing their deal with Activision Blizzard.

Both of these companies cover an absolute boatload of major franchises, and while some — such as Call of Duty — will still apparently remain on PlayStation, others like The Elder Scrolls and Starfield will not.

We’ll just have to see what happens down the line, but at least for now some franchise will remain on PlayStation formats. In the meantime, Sony is busy with its own acquisitions, albeit on a much smaller scale than Microsoft.
