Monolith Productions are back in the development hotseat this year with what could possibly be a sequel of epic proportion with Middle-Earth: Shadow of War.
One of the things that made Shadow of Mordor a truly innovative experience was the Nemesis system. It allowed for more personal stories to be told when a slain Uruk came back with personal grudge against Talion/Celebrimbor. The Nemesis system is back in the sequel and it’s bringing large scale battles to another level. Talion can now bring his entire army of Uruks, trolls and other monsters to the battlefield as they wage war against war chiefs and overlords in fortresses.
The Shadow of War gameplay video shows Talion infiltrating an orc fortress with Uruks, trolls and monsters by his side. There’s plenty of improvements to the main combat from multiple stealth takedowns to taking control of a dragon. The gameplay video ends with Talion going up against an overlord in a boss battle scenario and he finally takes control of the fortress. Conquering fortress seem to be a key mission design element in Shadow of War. As Mordor is plunged in a fight between good vs evil, Talion will experience friendship, loyalty and betrayal from his followers.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War releases on August 22, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
