Japanese publication Kanpo has announced the closure of developer Comcept, the studio founded by Mega Man legend Keiji Inafune back in 2010. According to the report, the developer was dissolved by a shareholders’ resolution last week.
Comcept was merged into Level 5 Comcept back in 2017 following the release of its first project, Mighty No.9, the year before. However, Inafune-san would later leave the studio and it was taken over completely by Level 5 back in 2024, and today the Conmcept brand is officially no more.
Mighty No.9 was initially funded on Kickstarter back in 2013, although despite being billed as something of a spiritual successor to Mega Man, failed to live up to expectations. You can read more on the game in our full review here.
Inafune has since become executive officer of Rocket Studio, and following Mighty No.9 has been involved in a number of projects including ReCore, Dragons & Colonies, and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time.
