Ludi Lin, the actor who portrays Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat II, has revealed that he’s interested in appearing in a Shaolin Monks spinoff in the future.
Speaking during an interview with Kiss92, Lin, who also played Liu Kang in 2021’s Mortal Kombat, which was the first instalment in the current rebooted movie franchise, had the following to say when asked about a possible Shaolin Monks movie:
I would love to do a Shaolin Monks movie, anything, a series, movie — I know Max [Huang] is game, so, he talks about it all the time.
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks should be familiar to fans of the franchise, as it was released in 2005 for the PS2 and Xbox as a spinoff to the franchise. It functions as a retelling of Mortal Kombat II, and follows Liu Kang and Kung Lao as they attempt other protect Earthrealm from Outworld forces, either as a solo or cooperative experience. The game is noted for its use of a multi-directional combat system, allowing for the ability to fluidly attack enemies from all directions. The game sold over one million copies, and is one of the most successful spinoffs in the franchise to date.
Mortal Kombat II is hitting cinemas on May 8, 2026.
