A Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks remaster has bee hinted at by series co-creator Ed Boon, who has revealed that fans are keen on seeing the game given an overhaul for modern platforms. In fact, Boon said that developer NetherRealm has been looking at remastering previous entries in the Mortal Kombat franchise as a whole.
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks Remaster Hinted At
Speaking in a Q&A at the Brazil Game Show 2019, Boon acknowledged fan demand for a remaster of Shaolin Monks, although made it clear that nothing has been given the green light at this point.
We’ve talked about doing remasters of some of the older games. You know, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks [is one that fans want remastered], and we’re thinking of it. We have nothing to announce, but it would be something we’d like to see.
Interestingly, Boon’s comments about a Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks remaster come not long after he revealed that 2020 would bring about a ‘big surprise‘ for the series. Could this be related to a possible remaster of the game and/or other Mortal Kombat titles?
It’s also not the first time that a Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks remaster has been teased.
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks was released back in 2005 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and sees Liu Kang and Kung-Lao travelling through the realms in order to overthrow evil sorcerer Shang Tsung. While it functions as an adventure game, Shaolin Monks also gives you plenty of opportunity to duff up bad guys and even pull off the series’ signature finishing moves, too.
While most Mortal Kombat spin-off games haven’t exactly set the world on fire, Shaolin Monks was actually a solid game, and sold over one million copies by 2008.
The most recent entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise launched back in April 2019. Read our review of the game here.
