Naughty Dog Working On Multiple Projects, But ‘Only One Is Getting The Lion’s Share Of Focus At Any Time’

The co-president of Naughty Dog has revealed the company has multiple projects in development, but it’s struggling with the process as some have barely scrapped past pre-production status.

Speaking during the Game Maker’s Notebook as part of AIAS, Evan Wells, who recently confirmed that the company does not have a new Jak & Daxter title in development, revealed that there’s just one project that is receiving the lion’s share of the company’s focus.

He revealed that the situation mirrors when Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and The Last of Us were in production at the same time, and that the former was “stealing resources away from The Last of Us, and we never got to the point where we had two full productions going.”

I would say even today we’re just short of that. We definitely have multiple projects, but only one that is getting the lion’s share of focus at any time.

We don’t have two projects that have several hundred people on them. We have one [project] and then some that are in pre-production, or maybe just creeping out of pre-production, but will have to wait until the main focus has completed before we move everybody off of that project.
