While speaking with The Direct, Bioshock movie producer Roy Lee confirmed that the upcoming BioShock film will be based on the franchise’s first film. The film is set to be directed by Francis Lawrence, who will begin work on the film once he has wrapped up filming on the latest Hunger Games movie.
The Direct: I am so, so excited. Is there anything you could tease about that, that story and your approach to that movie?
Lee: “…Netflix wants us to keep everything under wraps. But it’s definitely going to be based on the first ‘BioShock’ game…”

This is the second time a BioShock movie has been in the works. The first was set to be directed by Gore Verbinski before the project was canceled. This second attempt looks to be moving forward. Francis Lawrence is set to direct the movie based on a script by Justin Rhodes of Terminator: Dark Fate fame.
Speaking of Bioshock, BioShock 4 recently hit the rocks somewhat with 30% of its staff let go and former Diablo studio head Rod Fergusson taking over the project.
